COVENANT FOR CLEAN AND HONEST ELECTION
in Badbad Oriental, Loon,
Whereas, in The Philippine Omnibus Election Code, votebuying and voteselling of whatever form, using cash or any kind of value, immediate or promised, are clearly prohibited acts in an election, punishable with imprisonment without probation;
Whereas, votebuying and voteselling belongs to what the Word of God, the Holy Bible, warns, to wit: “Do not accept [or give] a bribe because a bribe blinds those who see and twists the words of the righteous” (Exodus 23:8);
Whereas, with regards to voteselling the Book of Proverbs states, “A greedy man brings trouble to his family, but he who hates bribes will live” (Proverbs 15:27);
Whereas, furthermore the Ecclesiastes says of the voteseller: “Extortion turns a wise man into a fool” (Ecclesiastes 7:7a) while of the bribe recipient: “And a bribe corrupts the heart” (v. 7b)
Whereas, since the Holy Bible or Word of God prohibits these two acts, therefore these are moral and spiritual sins;
Whereas, the Bible states that “the wages [penalty] of sin is [spiritual] death” e.g., in hell (Romans
Whereas, the wise King Solomon further said that only “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach (or source of regret or downfall) of the people” (Proverbs 14:34)
Since, all forms of bribery leads to something wrong, such as “blinding the eyes,” thus, nobody will see where is the safe path away from dangers and nobody could detect the entry of evil candidates to control our government and to rob our treasury, and the strengthening of their evil supporters through gambling, drugs and illegal arms syndicates and flesh trade; “twisting the words of the righteous,” thus, subjecting the people to live in lies and deceits, “bringing troubles [i.e., miseries and difficulties] to one’s family,” “turning a wise man into a fool,” “corrupting the heart,” thus, resulting to many sectors neglected or unloved, and above all, “causing downfall” of the nation;
And since only by “hating bribes can we live”, that is, peacefully, prosperously and lastingly and since only “by righteousness can we become an exalted nation”, that is, progressive, great, prosperous,
THEREFORE, we, the candidates for barangay captain and kagawads and SK chairman and kagawads of this barangay, Badbad Oriental, Loon, Bohol, Philippines, DO HEREBY AGREE AMONG OURSELVES TO NOT TO ENGAGE IN VOTEBUYING OF ANY FORM, SO THAT ONLY THE PLATFORMS (PLANS), THE COMPETENCE (QUALIFICATIONS) AS WELL AS THE CHARACTER OF THE CANDIDATES WILL BECOME THE RIGHT BASES FOR THE BARANGAY ELECTORS TO ELECT WISELY AND CORRECTLY THE QUALIFIED CANDIDATES
FOR THE WELFARE OF ALL FAMILIES AND TO CREATE A STABLE FUTURE FOR OUR CHILDREN THROUGH OUR EXAMPLES OF HONESTY AND RIGHTEOUSNESS IN GOVERNANCE AND LEADERSHIP, UNDER GOD’S BLESSINGS AND PROTECTION.
FURTHERMORE, WE ALSO HEREBY AGREE THAT UPON THE NON-CONFLICTING TESTIMONY OF TWO OR THREE WITNESSES, IN A WRITTEN AFFIDAVIT, THE ACCUSED VIOLATOR OF THIS COVENANT AND THE LAWS OF THE LAND AND THE LAWS OF GOD, FOUND GUILTY BEFORE THE BARANGAY ASSEMBLY SHALL BE AUTOMATICALLY DISQUALIFIED, WITHOUT NEED FOR ADDITIONAL HEARINGS BY THE HIGHER COURTS.
SO HELP US GOD.
WE HAVE WILLINGLY AFFIXED OUR SIGNATURES BELOW THIS 24TH DAY OF OCTOBER, 2007, WITH GOD THE FATHER AS OUR MAIN WITNESS AND THE PEOPLE OF THIS BARANGAY AS OUR SECONDARY WITNESSES. MAY THE RIGHTEOUS GOD JUDGE EACH OF US ACCORDINGLY AND DO UNTO EACH OF US AS HE OR SHE DESERVES.
